On the topic of changing one’s mind (see “It’s okay to begin again…”), there’s a word for that which also encompasses changing one’s heart, self or way of life. According to Merriam-Webster, metanoia is a “transformative change of heart especially: a spiritual conversion.” I like to think it’s validation of where I find myself these days—in part due to the mindfulness journey I embarked on more than two months ago. As a daily exercise between conscious thought and a willing spirit, I’m drawn to life’s simpler things and able to find joy within both the hills and the valleys. Not only has my heart softened toward those closest to me and to the plight of the human condition, but I feel a richer compassion for myself. Although unsure of my next step, I’m okay with that because I’m moving forward. And, for the first time—maybe ever—I’m comfortable in my own skin. Perhaps Club 50 is “the new metanoia.”
What recent transformative change have you experienced?

Very inspiring post, Chris. Had never heard of the word “metanoia.” Am happy to hear that you are comfortable in your own skin. That’s been quite a long journey…thinking back to the late-1980s.
What recent transformative change have I experienced? With the Y, I’ve been doing a Mat Pilates class 2x a week and signed up to take Pilates Reformer session starting next month.
Also am going to do a “Well Together” program that looks at the whole person in terms of health: physical, mental, and emotional. (The spiritual aspect will be addressed with a nine-month program I’m taking at my church.)
The Y and a local hospital are working together and participants meet with a team regularly (doctor, nurse, fitness coach, nutritionist, and wellness coach) as well as do small-group sessions (e.g., nutrition education).
One test is a metabolism assessment. Am hoping that by finding out my metabolic rate along with how to eat and exercise properly that I will be able to be healthier, not have continual pain, and live in a body that I can be okay with and not disgusted with/by.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to the question at the end of my post, Ann. Bravo at the transformative change you are undergoing. I’m thrilled to hear that you are making your wellness a priority. The “Well Together” program that you’re planning to participate in sounds like an incredible opportunity… wish I lived closer and we could go through it together 🙂 I can’t wait to hear about your progress and discoveries along the way. Cheering you on from the Southwest!
