After 30 days of practicing mindfulness, I can honestly say: it works. Not only have I gained a deeper level of awareness of who I am and what I want to be, I’ve also discovered that consistency is key to (lasting) change. Practice these eight steps to become a better version of you:
- Recognize and acknowledge negative thinking; work to change your train of thought.
- Choose happy: every moment, each day.
- If you’re not happy with XYZ, pray, say and/or take action.
- Don’t take life too seriously: laugh at yourself. It heals, it’s contagious and it’s a free ab workout.
- Smile often: it’s sunshine on a cloudy day, for yourself and others.
- Mistakes happen: own up and rectify if possible. Then move on.
- Slow down; life is not a race to be run but a journey to be savored.
- Be kind to your neighbor, your fellow human-being: we are all in this thing together.
How do you practice consistency daily?

Did you have any ways to remind you be mindful throughout the day? I keep wanting to do a 30 day challenge to start some new habits (like yoga, mindfulness, journaling) but I never seem to be able to get the consistency part down… I forget and get discouraged.. Suggestions?

My initial suggestion is to focus on one area to begin with. And be gentle with yourself. If you get off track one day, don’t beat yourself up. Every day is a new opportunity, a blank page, to begin fresh 🙂 I just completed a 30/30 yoga challenge and that was my main area of mindfulness for the month of June. How? I arranged all of my activities each day around my practice. Here’s another thought: record what you want to do on your calendar or planner. Then, each day reward yourself with a sticker or a big fat checkmark once you’ve completed your activity 🙂
