A lot has transpired over the past week since I wrote about taking things one day at a time. The family move into our new home finally took place and I’ve been dealing with Internet and phone problems, plumbing and electrical issues, as well as defective appliances. It seems that every time I turn around, a new obstacle is unearthed along with ill tempers.

Not only am I handling these occurrences as they come (although admittedly, not always with a smile on my face), but a few other solutions have become essential to helping me maintain my cool.

  1. A good workout, even when—especially when—it’s the last thing I want to do. Increasing my heart rate for at least 30 minutes daily keeps me healthy and releases endorphins, making it easier to handle setbacks and frustrations.
  2. Close friends who insist I unload on them. Just verbalizing aloud (or via text or IM) helps me regroup.
  3. Spending time doing what I enjoy the most — writing — even if it’s simply drafting a beauty blog or this week’s entry for Always the Write Time.
  4. Laughter, because it truly is the best medicine in life.
  5. A pencil with an eraserThis makes it simple to put off the less urgent items for another day.
  6. Irish Cream blended with ice or Vanilla Chai are two of my favorite kinds of hugs I can give myself.
  7. Standing under the spray of my new wet/dry shower, the next best thing to Heaven.
